18. Find Your Rhythm

March 27th 2020, Friday

Dear Blog,

Act during the day so that you can sleep soundly at night, and your youth so that you can have a calm old age.

— Indian proverb

Well, I definitely did not do that. I was supposed to study for the exam but ended up reading books that had nothing to do with exams and procrastinated until the very last minute before going to bed and waking up at 5 AM to study for the exam at 9 AM. Not to be recommended. I think this tendency to stay late to work out of guilt is mostly a result of poor planning. I can’t wait for the exam to be over just so I can get my life back together again.

I watched the above video yesterday when I was really bored with studying. It really is inspiring to watch. I love it when he says that when you get into it, it feels like a dance. I can relate to that and not just in cooking. We are governed by rhythm all our lives. I think it was Jordan Peterson who said that if you are feeling out of sorts, the first question he would ask is if you are sleeping at regular hours. It is so true. Finding the rhythm of our daily lives with good habits can really go a long way. I plan to wake up at regular hours from now on, never take naps (because it screws up my sleeping cycle), and go to bed before 11 PM.

For the first 30 years of your life, you make your habits. For the last 30 years of your life, your habits make you.
